Island Company Launches First Sub-Brand to Expand Lifestyle
Resort apparel firm and lifestyle brand Island Company has launched Island Vintage, a handmade men's and women's collection that focuses on intricate custom hand-work and detailing. Island Vintage is the first of three sub-brands the company expects to introduce by January 2013, including outerwear, furniture and lifestyle accessories.
Made in New Delhi by local artisans, the 10-piece collection consists of one-of-a-kind dresses, tunics, cover-ups, shorts, tops and skirts. Island Vintage is currently being sold exclusively in Island Company's six freestanding stores, but an expanded collection will be available for wholesale in January. All items are made with cotton-lawn fabric and emphasize embroidery, pintucking and pleating, achieving an aesthetic that was inspired by Creative Director Spencer Antle's prolific travels.
“Going to India introduced me to some amazing handicraft in embroidery that was unparalleled in anything I had seen in the marketplace. Of course there's lots of embroidery out there, but I thought this special. And it wasn't easy to find. I was all over the country, in and out of hundreds of vendors looking for the best work. I wanted to offer a one-of-a-kind collection that I was positive hadn't been seen to this degree,” said Spencer.
The launch of Island Vintage follows the success of the company's sun care, jewelry and eyewear lines, as well as its significant retail growth over the past three years. “This, on top of our retail expansion, should place Island Company in an original level of resort lifestyle brands,” Spencer said. “We are always considered only a classic Americana lifestyle brand but I think this will show our world-wide appeal and style...”
The 10-year-old firm, known for its swimwear, linen, dresses, accessories and footwear for the intrepid world traveler is upping its collection's fashion quotient next year by introducing more colors, prints and styles to the lineup. The Vintage Collection >
